How to Donate A Car

 

How does the car donation process work?

We have made the car donation process easy and pleasant for vehicle donors. To donate your car, you may complete our easy-to-use online car donation form. If you would like to speak with a representative for more information on how to donate your car within your specific area, please call us at 1-800-940-5328. Once we have received your information, your car will be picked up in a timely manner and your IRS tax deductible donation receipt will be sent to you.

 

How is the value of my car donation determined?

The IRS allows the donor to determine the fair market value up to $500. If we sell your donated car for over $500, the IRS allows you to claim the selling price as a deduction.

 

Do you accept other donations besides vehicles?

Yes. In most cases, we also accept boats, car, trucks, vans, conversion vans, motorcycles, RV's and property.

 

What documents do you need from me if I donate my car?

If you decided to donate your car, we need the title for the vehicle you are donating and a lien release if there was ever a lien holder listed on the title. You will need to sign your name on the signature of seller line located in the first reassignment area of the title. Please sign your name as it appears on the front of the title. If more than one person is listed as an owner on the front of the title, they must also sign on the signature of seller line.

 

If I donate my car, how does it get picked up?

Once you have completed the car donation process, one of our professional towing companies will contact you to schedule a convenient date to pick-up your vehicle. When the towing company arrives to pick-up your vehicle, they will also pick-up the title and keys for the vehicle.

 

Is there a charge for towing?

No. If you decide to donate your car, we will provide free towing.

 

Do I have to be home when my donated car is picked up?

No. If you will not be home on the date of the scheduled pick-up, you will need to advise the towing company specifically where in the vehicle you will be leaving the title and the keys. The towing company will leave you a towing receipt showing that your vehicle was picked up on behalf of vehicles4veteransca.org Remember to remove your personal belongings and take off the license plate on the day the vehicle is scheduled to be picked up.

 

How long will it take to have my car donation picked up?

Your car will be picked up within 48 to 72 hours after you have completed the car donation process. We can also expedite towing to pick-up your vehicle within 24 hours if necessary.

 

When donating a car, does it have to be a running car?

No. We accept ALL car donations - whether running or non-running. However we prefer running vehicles

 

What areas do you service?

We accept car donations in the following cities: San Jose, and surrounding municipalities, including the high-tech hubs of Santa Clara, Milpitas, Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale as well as many other cities like Saratoga, Campbell, Los Gatos and the exurbs of Morgan Hill and Gilroy.  Oakland, Hayward, Fremont, Berkeley, and Richmond, as well as many smaller suburbs such as Alameda, Castro Valley, Newark, Union City, Emeryville, Albany, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Piedmont, and El Cerrito.  The Tri-Valley -  Dublin and Pleasanton, Livermore, San Ramon, Alamo and Danville. Palo Alto, Los Altos, Portola Valley, Woodside, Atherton, Belmont, Brisbane, Burlingame, Colma, Cupertino, Daly City, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Hillsborough, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Menlo Park, Millbrae, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Pacifica, Portola Valley, Redwood City, Redwood Shores, San Bruno, San Carlos, San Francisco, San Mateo, South San Francisco and Woodside.  We may make exceptions for other locations, please ask us.
